New Degree, New Job, New Leaf!
This has been a busy month, and I haven’t let everything sink in yet.
Graduation was wonderful. My parents came into town on Friday and we got acquainted with all the lovely people at Hemingway’s Bistro at the Write Inn in Oak Park. One of the greatest meals I have ever had; a wonderful treat.
I got to show my parents the beautiful Dominican University campus, and we walked around a little bit even though it was unseasonably chilly. The GSLIS brunch was excellent and it was great to introduce family, friends and professors on this special occasion. The rest of the visit with my family was relaxing; I loved showing everyone around the city. We went to the Celtic Festival at Millennium Park and the Shedd Aquarium.
Following such a busy and thrilling weekend, I received an official job offer at Roosevelt University Library. I have been working here at RU since October of 2008 as a Reference Assistant. I nearly took a job as a page at the Chicago History Museum; but I am thrilled about the way everything has worked out. As an assistant, I have been on the reference desk 2-3 days a week. I have been involved in library user instruction courses, collection management, and the creation of LibGuides amongst countless other projects and responsibilities.
My new position at Roosevelt will be as Reference Instruction and Distance Learning Librarian. I will be working to incorporate ACRL’s Guidelines for Distance Learning Library Services into Roosevelt University’s Online courses. I am really happy that I decided to take the Library 2.0 class; online presence and behavior will now be a part of my professional life on a daily basis.
My last day at Steppenwolf Theater Company will be June 11th. I moved to Chicago to be an apprentice in the Audio Department in 2004. I have worked there ever since, both as a sound engineer and in the box office. I will miss the great people I work with, the friends I have made, and all the wonderful things about working at the theater. The friends, the parties, the shows… However, I don’t think I will miss the hours. I have spent the last six years juggling three, sometimes four, or even five schedules… and now, I will have one job. One job that I am incredibly excited about. One job that I can focus a lot of energy on!
My summer will include friends, family, patios, cooking, and farmer’s markets. Lots and lots of farmers markets. Thanks to everyone who has helped me get this far…
